Phase 1 Concept generation

36-48+ months prior to first cases

Every new surgery center starts as an idea, driven by vision and ambition to have a lasting impact on patients and the community. The first step in the new build process is to refine the initial idea and to define what the future surgery center will be.

Key questions

  • If you’re a new group, who will your partners be?
  • How many partners will you have?
  • What specialties will your center offer?
  • Will your center be affiliated with a hospital or management company?
  • What percentage of the center will physicians own?

Once you’ve defined your scope and aligned on your group, the business planning process can begin. The project begins to come to life once initial investments are made and facility renderings are generated by the architect or design build firm.

Milestones:

  • Creation of a legal entity and governing board
  • Business plan creation
  • Construction budget determination
  • Land or building identification
  • Hiring of consultants
  • Selection of an architect or design build firm
  • Peer-to-peer education

Selection of a design build firm

"Working with a design build firm instead of a separate architect and builder can eliminate handoffs and help to streamline the construction process, saving time and money in the long run."

ASC educational experiences

The appetite to build a new ASC can be strong, yet you may have questions and topics you’d like to explore deeper with someone who has recently undergone a similar project. ASC educational experiences are half-day, in-person engagements or one-hour virtual engagements designed for administrators, clinical and operational leaders and physicians to learn from high-performing outpatient centers and their staff.

  • Learn how Stryker partnered to build a comprehensive solution that met the clinical, financial and operational goals of their center.
  • Understand how organizations are safely transitioning high acuity care to the outpatient setting while providing a great patient experience with the use of Stryker products, services and technology.
  • Leverage the experiences of administrators and physicians who’ve recently undergone a new build or expansion project who are eager to share first-hand experiences, lessons learned and best practices.
  • Participate in guided facility tours to uncover key considerations for design, build and flow.
