This education program clarifies the Spaulding Classification system and explains why some infection prevention experts are asking for revisions to the classification definitions. An overview of low-temperature sterilization processes will be discussed, as well as differentiating the hydrogen peroxide sterilization process from the liquid chemical sterilant process and the high-level disinfection process. The program will also include an explanation of the hazards of ethylene oxide and legal requirements for using ethylene oxide sterilization.
