Stryker’s Chair and CEO, Kevin Lobo, has received the 2023 Ellis Island Medal of Honor, which celebrates inspiring Americans who are working for the betterment of our country and its citizens.

Presented on Ellis Island each year by the Ellis Island Honors Society, the medal is given to a select group of individuals whose accomplishments in their fields and inspired service to our nation are worthy of commendation. The award embodies the spirit of America in its celebration of patriotism, diversity and the importance of immigrants to our nation’s economic and social success.

In the past, medal recipients have included Presidents of the United States, Supreme Court Justices, Nobel laureates, and business leaders across industries.

“As an immigrant of India who grew up in Canada and long admired the United States of America, I am humbled to be included among such esteemed company,” said Kevin. “My family is very proud, especially my parents and in-laws who live in Toronto and were all first-generation immigrants to North America.”

Kevin earned his bachelor’s degree at McGill University and an MBA from the University of Toronto and is a dual citizen of Canada and the U.S. He was named Stryker’s CEO in 2012 and is the company’s fifth CEO since its founding in 1941. Under his leadership, Stryker has built a strong company culture focused on making healthcare better through shared values.

“Living in different countries has opened my mind to new ideas and ways of working, which I believe has been helpful in leading a large global organization,” Kevin said.

The Ellis Island Medal of Honor has been officially recognized by both Houses of Congress as one of the nation’s most prestigious awards and its honorees are recorded annually in the official Congressional Record.
