This continuing education activity will provide a brief overview of current breast cancer incidence and survival rates and the impact of breast cancer surgical scarring. The evolution of breast cancer surgical treatment in mastectomy and lumpectomy to prioritize both oncologic and cosmetic outcomes will be reviewed. The clinical benefits of advanced photonics technology for intracavity illumination and visualization during breast surgery without visible scarring will be described.
