Learn how Akron Children’s Hospital used connected care teams to streamline admissions, discharges and documentation

In pediatric care, hospitals face unique challenges, from staffing shortages and rising operational costs to ensuring consistent support for patients and families. Akron Children’s launched a Virtual Nursing Pilot Project to address these pressures by integrating virtual nurses into the care team. Supported by AI-enabled technology, virtual nurses took on key operational responsibilities traditionally handled at the bedside, including admissions, discharges, patient monitoring and education. Over the course of the 7-month pilot, this approach contributed to 1,045 nursing hours saved and helped identify 145 patient safety risks, while supporting improvements in workflow coordination and documentation practices. Download the white paper to explore how these outcomes were achieved and what they may signal for the future of care delivery.
