Acquisition broadens Stryker’s reprocessed single-use device portfolio to help deliver additional savings to hospitals and health systems
Stryker’s Sustainability Solutions division announced today the completion of its acquisition of Hygia Health Services. Headquartered in Birmingham, Ala., Hygia focuses exclusively on reprocessing patient care single-use
devices (SUDs) in the U.S. This acquisition will allow Stryker to better serve customers as a premier provider of sustainability solutions in the global healthcare market.
“In line with our commitment to help hospitals and health systems increase the value their SUD reprocessing programs deliver, this acquisition will enhance our ability to deliver savings to our customers,” said Brian White, President, Stryker’s Sustainability Solutions division. “Furthermore, our broader product portfolio will help customers elevate their sustainability goals and set a higher bar for sustainable healthcare delivery.”
Stryker helped its nearly 3,000 SUD reprocessing customers collectively save $326 million in supply costs and divert 13.4 million pounds of waste from landfills in 2017.
Stryker and Hygia have successfully partnered since 2015 to reprocess SUDs and the acquisition further solidifies this partnership. Hygia’s product portfolio, including air transfer mattresses, fall alarms, ECG leads, cerebral-somatic sensors and infusor bags, will broaden Stryker’s reprocessing offering.
