Stryker employees just naturally see ways to make things better, and we hold ourselves personally accountable for making improvements. Take JoAnn Grgurich of Stryker Medical, who saw potential in the vast quantities of bubble and foam packaging from incoming deliveries to the plant. For the last three years, she has collected these materials for reuse in packing the service parts that we send to our hospital customers.

JoAnn’s efforts jump-started the Green Team, which promotes recycling innovations across the facility. The Green Team, under the leadership of Darcy Nelles-Serba, is responsible for the plant’s pending application for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.

Not incidentally, the Green Team’s initiatives reduce costs as well as waste — for example, saving about $90,000 annually by selling wood pallets for reuse rather than disposing of them.
