Prime Connect technology helps enable fall prevention protocols, providing safer experience for patients and care teams

KALAMAZOO, Mich., USA – Stryker (NYSE:SYK), one of the world’s leading medical technology companies, introduced Prime Connect—the first smart, connected hospital stretcher designed to support fall prevention protocols from anywhere in a facility—at the Emergency Nursing 2023 event in San Diego, Calif., on Sept. 22, 2023.

Every year, nearly 1 million1 patients in the United States experience a fall in hospitals, with a portion of these incidents occurring within emergency departments. These falls can result in injuries with an estimated cost of up to $32,2152 per injury, and they take a toll on care team morale. With the increasing patient load and limited nursing staff, setting and responding to hospital bed exit alarms has become an even greater challenge.

“We listened to our customers and Prime Connect is an example of our commitment to innovation, bringing our patient and communication platforms together to provide a better experience for caregivers and exceptional care for their patients,” said Jessica Mathieson, vice president and general manager of Stryker’s Acute Care business.

This stretcher has both visual and audible bed exit alarms, providing seamless communication with various hospital systems, including the nurse call dome light. With the acquisition of Vocera Communications in February 2022, Prime Connect can also wirelessly communicate vital patient information in near real-time to the Vocera Badge or the nurses’ station through Vision, a protocol management dashboard for streamlined workflows and on-the-go monitoring.
