Styker announced today it has developed an emergency relief patient cover to meet the needs of healthcare providers. Customers voiced feedback about emergency care provider exposure to patients that may have COVID-19. With PPE shortages exacerbating these concerns, some customers have resorted to creating their own solutions, all while trying to care for their patients and protect themselves.
Stryker’s EMS and hospital customers reported that they were looking for some type of barrier that was easy to use, and safe for patients and staff, while still providing the ability for patient intervention while the barrier was in place. Stryker’s Emergency Relief Patient Cover was designed to address these challenges.†
The patient cover is being sold in the U.S., Canada, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Peru, Puerto Rico, Costa Rica, Panama and Brazil.
†The product has not been FDA cleared or approved.
The product has been authorized by FDA under an EUA for use by healthcare providers (HCP) when caring for or performing medical procedures on patients who are known or suspected to have COVID-19, in healthcare settings, to prevent HCP exposure to pathogenic biological airborne particulates by providing an extra layer of barrier protection in addition to personal protective equipment.
This product is authorized only for the duration of the declaration that circumstances exist justifying the authorization of the emergency use of medical devices, including alternative products used as medical devices, during the COVID-19 outbreak, under section 564(b)(1) of the Act, 21 U.S.C. §360bbb-3(b)(1) unless the authorization is terminated or revoked sooner.
