Sidra Medicine improves sepsis response and compliance using Vocera technology

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body’s immune response becomes dysregulated due to an infection, such as pneumonia. It can escalate quickly, leading to severe organ dysfunction, septic shock and death. While rapid in onset, sepsis is preventable when recognised early and treated promptly.¹

In March 2022, Sidra Medicine, a private, not for-profit academic healthcare and research institution for women, children and young people in the State of Qatar, launched the Vocera Team Sepsis initiative in its pediatric inpatient units. The goal was to improve time to treatment and reduce the occurrence of preventable sepsis-related deaths through a coordinated response. 

By using Vocera’s hands-free communication technology, sepsis notifications were initiated rapidly across the team. With near-real time communication, team coordination and structured clinical workflows, Sidra Medicine saw significant improvement in timely intravenous antibiotic administration and reported zero preventable sepsis-related deaths between January and July 2024.²
