Crossfire Polyethylene

Performance Matters

Previous clinical experiences with highly crosslinked polyethylene acetabular components demonstrate significant reductions in wear.

  • Oonishi has published results demonstrating a 79 percent reduction in wear at 17 years.1 The components studied were crosslinked utilizing extremely high dose of gamma radiation. Oonishi also reported results indicating that the mechanical properties of highly crosslinked polyethylene do not deteriorate in-vivo.
  • Wroblewski’s 10-year data shows 75 percent reduction in polyethylene wear utilizing chemical crosslinking2
  • The data by Grobbelaar3 demonstrates 89 percent wear reduction at 19 years.

These studies show consistent results and significant polyethylene wear reduction as a result of crosslinking. Crossfire highly-crosslinked polyethylene has demonstrated similar results under joint simulation testing compared to standard polyethylene gamma sterilized in an inert environment.
