Manager of Loaner Operations at Stryker Spine

Mike manages products the Spine loans out for surgical add-on cases, educational workshops and demonstrations. He joined Stryker in 1997.

“I’ve been in the U.S. Army Reserve for 16 years and have always been a high achiever with a lot of energy. Both my military and Stryker careers place high demands for enthusiasm, attention to detail and commitment. Much of what I have learned from each career has been applicable to the other.

The military requires a large commitment on my part, often requiring interruptions in my normal work routine. Stryker has been very supportive and has made it easy for me to take any necessary leaves of absence. If my managers and peers were not so supportive, I might have more stress and uncertainty about my future every time I’m called to active duty.

I have been deployed three times since in Stryker’s employ. Each time has presented different challenges but has also provided lessons learned. I’ve tried my best to insure a seamless transition when the time comes to leave again.

The thing I like best about working at Stryker is our mission to improve patients’ quality of life. I treat every case as if it were going to one of my family members. In my department, we have the unique opportunity to work with different charity organizations for worldwide humanitarian missions. We get to help make someone’s life better where they normally would not receive the necessary care.

I thrive on challenges and Stryker gives individuals as much as they want to undertake and sometimes pushes us a little further to make us that much better. I am engaged because I know that complacency is not an option. There is no set routine and different challenges appear daily. I feel most that I’m a team-oriented achiever. My work ethic is strong and I expect the same level of energy and enthusiasm from my peers, seniors and subordinates. I like to include my team members in critical decisions affecting our services to our customers. I’ve learned that simple improvements can make a world of difference in the jobs of our customers. If we help make their job a little easier, I’d like to hope that it just might make their life a little better.”
