| Sports are becoming an increasingly popular activity in China. A national survey indicates that between 1996 and 2000, the number of Chinese people over the age of 16 who participate in sports increased from 189 million to 231 million.1 This growth, together with the upcoming 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, has stimulated the development of sports medicine in China. This specialty is now being taught in many academic medical centers, and high-level international symposia and conferences are being organized to increase communications and training in sports medicine. |
